Interactive Learning: Questions and Patterns

I’ll ask questions in Czech and provide answers. Focus on the colours and the corresponding fruits:

  • Jaké ovoce je oranžové? (What fruit is orange?)
Oranžový je pomeraňč. (Orange is the orange.)
  • Oranžová je mandarinka a meruňka. (Orange is the tangerine and apricot.)
  • Jaké ovoce je červené? (What fruit is red?)
Červený je meloun. (Red is the watermelon.)
  • Červená je jahoda. (Red is the strawberry.)
  • Červené je granátové jablko. (Red is the pomegranate.)
  • Jaké ovoce je zelené? (What fruit is green?)
Zelená je hruška. (Green is the pear.)
  • Zelené je jablko a kiwi. (Green is the apple and kiwi.)
  • Jaké ovoce je fialové? (What fruit is violet?)
Borůvky jsou fialové. (Blueberries are violet.)
  • Švestky jsou fialové. (Plums are violet.)
  • Ostružiny jsou tmavě fialové nebo černé. (Blackberries are dark violet or black.)
  • Jaké ovoce je černé? (What fruit is black?)
Černý je rybíz. (Black is the currant.)
  • Může být také červený a bílý. (It can also be red and white.)

The endings change based on the gender of the noun they modify:

  • TEN POMERANČ (the orange) is masculine, so you say ORANŽOVÝ.
  • MERUŇKA (apricot) is feminine, so you say ORANŽOVÁ MERUŇKA.
  • JABLKO (apple) is neutral, so you say ZELENÉ JABLKO.

Learning in context rather than isolating vocabulary will be more beneficial.
