Where Did You Go? (PART 2B) – NA FESTIVAL, NA NÁVŠTĚVU, etc. (S02/E43 – daily podcast CZECH YOUR DAY)

THIS WEEK’S TOPIC: Kam jsi šel/šla?/Where did you go? (PART 2: NA)

THE TRANSCRIPT/HANDOUT IS DOWN BELOW

Let’s learn more useful expressions that are used with the preposition NA (when talking about heading somewhere).

Masculine Nouns:

  • Ten festival – festival.
  • Ten záchod – toilet. However, there is a more formal version, ta toaleta, which is feminine.

Kdy jsi jel na festival?
(When did you go to the festival?)
Proč chodila tak často na záchod?
(Why did she go to the toilet so often?)

Feminine Nouns:

  • Ta návštěva – visit.
  • Ta výstava – exhibition.
  • Ta ambasáda – embassy.

Jezdili jste na návštěvu vždy o víkendu?
(Did you always go on a visit during the weekend?)
Jak často chodili na výstavu?
(How often did you go to the exhibition?)
Proč jsi jela na ambasádu?
(Why did you go to the embassy?)
Proč chodila tak často na toaletu? (Thinking about it, don’t ask this question.)
(Why did she go to the toilet so often? )

  • Ta lekce – lesson.

Kdy šla na lekci?
(When did she go to the lesson?)

Neutral Nouns:

  • To nádraží – railway station.

Čím jeli na nádraží? Autobusem.
(How did they get to the railway station? By bus.)

Čím = literally with what

  • To parkoviště – parking lot.
  • To hřiště – playground.

Kam jsi šel? Šel jsem na parkoviště.
(Where did you go? I went to the parking lot.)
Chodíte na hřiště každé pondělí?
(Do you go to the playground every Monday?)

See how the patterns remain consistent with what I shared with you in Monday’s episode. Masculine (inanimate) and neutral nouns stay unchanged. Be cautious with feminines—they can be tricky, but don’t worry, you’ll grasp the pattern with time and practice.
