Here’s a list of expressions we’ll cover, along with their English translations:

• Jdu do zlatnictví – I’m going to the jeweler’s.

• Jdu do květinářství – I’m going to the florist’s.
• Jdu do elektra – I’m going to the electronics store.
• Jdu do trafiky – I’m going to the newsagent’s.
• Jdu do lékárny – I’m going to the pharmacy.
• Jdu do obuvi – I’m going to the shoe shop.
• Jdu do drogerie – I’m going to the drugstore.
• Jdu do sportu – I’m going to the sports shop.
• Jdu do sportovních potřeb – I’m going to the sports shop.

A Note on Informal Expressions

When learning Czech, it’s important to use expressions common in everyday conversations. I’ve chosen the verb POTŘEBOVAT (to need), using an informal form. Keep in mind this is not the version you’d use in formal settings like exams. The standard form is potřebuji (I need), but in casual conversations, potřebuju is more common. So, let’s dive into some sentences using this form.

Practical Sentences

• V sobotu půjdu do zlatnictví, protože potřebuju koupit řetízek.
  On Saturday, I’ll go to the jeweler’s because I need to buy a necklace.
• Kamarádka má narozeniny. Teď jdu do květinářství.
  My friend has a birthday. Now I’m going to the florist’s.
• Kam jdeš? Jdu do elektra, potřebuju koupit nový vysavač.
  Where are you going? I’m going to the electronics store, I need to buy a new vacuum cleaner.
• Zítra půjdu do trafiky koupím tam lístky na autobus.
  Tomorrow I’ll go to the kiosk. I’ll buy bus tickets there.
• Jdu teď do lékárny, mám alergii a potřebuju prášky na alergii.
  I’m going to the pharmacy now, I have allergies and need allergy pills.
• Kam půjdeš odpoledne? Půjdu do obuvi, potřebuju si koupit nové sandále.
  Where are you going this afternoon? I’m going to the shoe shop, I need to buy new sandals.
• Jdeš teď do lékárny? Ne, jdu teď do drogerie, protože potřebuju koupit toaletní papír a pastu na zuby.
  Are you going to the pharmacy now? No, I’m going to the drugstore because I need to buy toilet paper and toothpaste.
• Kam půjdeš zítra ráno? Půjdu do sportu. Koupím si nové brusle.
  Where are you going tomorrow morning? I’m going to the sports shop. I’ll buy new skates.
