In today’s episode, Renča shows you how to order ice cream in Czech both with and without mentioning the scoops.
When you say “I’ll have” followed by the flavor, the endings shift from -Á to -OU. So, you’ll confidently say, Dám si čokoládovou for chocolate ice-cream.
But wait, there’s more! Mentioning the number of scoops adds another layer of intrigue. While ordering one scoop of ice cream, say a scoop of chocolate, you’ll say, Dám si jeden kopeček čokoládové.
Remember, if you want to sound like a native and order your ice-cream with confidence, it’s good to remember these endings. If you aren’t sure about the scoops, check yesterday’s episode.
Czech people are lazy – we don’t usually mention the word ice-cream. We prefer to say the flavor itself.
If you want to include the word “ice cream,” the ending changes again to -U (“ZMRZLINU.”) Dám si čokoládovou zmrzlinu. = I’ll have chocolate ice-cream.
And with scoops: Dám si dva kopečky čokoládové zmrzliny. = I’ll have 2 scoops of chocolate ice-cream.
