Why is it important to learn not only Standard Czech, but also Common Czech?

I get regularly contacted by foreigners who are extremely frustrated because they have been learning Czech for months, but they don’t understand us in everyday situations that aren’t formal (let’s be honest – most of the situations aren’t formal)… Majority of Czech people in Bohemia don’t speak like a textbook. We prefer the less formal (= „chilled“) version of Czech language (= Common Czech).

That’s why I include Common Czech into my videos on YouTube (there is a special playlist LEARN COMMON CZECH THROUGH STORIES). Each video from this playlist contains a chart at the end of the video where I show examples of Standard Czech and Common Czech equivalents that were used in that particular story.
